Running your route

The Route tab is today's work: every customer with a pickup scheduled for today, ordered into a sensible walking loop rather than by name or signup date.

What's on it

• The stops, in order, each with the address and which cans to take out.
• A map with the whole loop on it.
• Directions, which hands the route to your phone's maps app. The last stop becomes the destination and the rest become stops along the way; your maps app starts you from wherever you are. A long route only carries its first ten stops — when that happens the page says so, and the rest are still on the map.

Keeping up

The list refreshes itself when anything on the page saves, so a can your roller checked off from their own phone shows as done here too. Stops you've already put in order stay put — anything newly added joins the end rather than pushing in partway down your round.

Ordering

Where road routing is switched on for your business, stops are ordered by real driving distance and the map draws the streets you'll actually take. Optimize order re-solves it, and so does the day itself changing: add a stop while the page is open and the route is worked out again around it, rather than leaving you a drawn route that goes past the new house without stopping.

Otherwise the order is nearest-to-next in a straight line, and the map joins the stops with a dashed line — a good loop, not a perfect one, and it doesn't know about one-ways or the river between two houses.

Either way, if you know the neighborhood better than the map does, follow your own judgement.

Nothing scheduled?

"No pickups scheduled" for a day you expected means one of three things:

1. You haven't generated pickups that far ahead.
2. Today isn't one of your recurring collection days.
3. Everyone on today's list is paused.

Handing it to the kid

Don't run the route from this page with a kid in tow — use roller mode, which is the same stops in a form built for somebody standing in a driveway holding a can.
