Logging in and passwords

Getting to this page

Log in sits at the top right of every public page, as a small link next to the Sign up button. The button is the one for people who don't have an account yet; yours is the link beside it.

Ways to log in

• Email and password — the usual.
• Email a login link — Email me a link instead, under the Log in button. We email you a link that signs you straight in. No password needed, it works once, and it expires after an hour.
• Continue with Google — if you created your account that way, or linked it later.

They all reach the same account, as long as the email address matches.

"Review and accept"

Signing in can land you on Review and accept rather than your usual page. It asks you to confirm you're the adult account holder and to agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Tick the box, choose Accept and continue, and you carry on to where you were headed.

It's asked once per account, so it turns up for accounts old enough to have never been asked — including the first time you use Continue with Google on an account you already had. Answering it on one device answers it everywhere.

There's no way around it while it's showing: opening another page brings you straight back here until it's answered. Nothing is lost in the meantime — you land on the page you were trying to reach.

Forgotten password

Use Forgot password on the login page. We email you a recovery link; following it lets you set a new password, and then drops you back into the app.

If the email hasn't arrived after a few minutes, check spam, and check you used the address you signed up with.

"Could not reach Rollout"

That one isn't about your password. It means the login never got through — usually a patchy connection on a train or in a lift. Wait until you have signal and tap Log in again; nothing has been changed on your account.

A wrong password says something different and more specific, so the two are easy to tell apart.

Linking Google to an existing account

From Login & security on your account page you can see which methods are attached and link another one. Linking Google to an account that already has a password means either will work afterwards.

Logging out

The button in the top-right of every signed-in page. On a shared computer, use it — a session otherwise stays valid for a long time.

Signing in in another language

The language picker is at the top of the login and signup screens too, so you can switch before you have an account to save the choice to. Sign up in Spanish and the confirmation email arrives in Spanish — the language you picked is carried into the new account, not asked for again afterwards.
